FRUIT AND VITAMIN C

How many times have we listened to our parents, grandparents, friends or relatives
tell us "Drink the orange juice, it's running out of vitamin C!"?
But what is vitamin C?
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. It is necessary for the normal growth and development of our body.
The water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water. leftover amounts
they leave the body through urine. Although the body stores a small reserve of these vitamins, they have to be taken regularly to avoid a shortage in the body.
And why do we need it?
Vitamin C helps reduce tiredness and fatigue and is a natural protector. Its consumption improves the absorption of iron. In addition, vitamin C is essential for the structure of bones, cartilage, muscles and blood vessels, and helps maintain capillaries and gums.
The body cannot make vitamin C on its own, nor does it store it. Therefore, it is important to include plenty of foods that contain this vitamin in your daily diet. While a glass of orange juice or half a glass of red pepper would be enough to meet your RDA for vitamin C, here are all the foods and drinks you'd need to consume to reach 500 milligrams (mg):

  • Cantaloupe, 1 glass (8 ounces): 59 mg
  • Juice orange, 1 glass : 97mg
  • Broccoli, cooked, 1 glass: 74mg
  • Red cabbage, 1/2 cup: 40 mg
  • Green pepper, 1/2 glass, 60 mg
  • Red bell pepper, 1/2 glass, 95 mg
  • Kiwi, 1 glass: 70 mg
  • Tomato juice, 1 glass: 45 mg.

Vitamin C is not stored in the body (excess amounts are excreted), so overdose is not a concern. But it's still important not to exceed the safe upper limit of 2,000 milligrams a day to avoid stomach upset and diarrhea.
Water soluble vitamins must be continuously supplied in the diet to maintain healthy levels. Eat fruits and vegetables that are in season, especially those from your area as indicated by Ayurveda medicine, rich in vitamin C raw or cooked with a minimum of water so as not to lose part of the water-soluble vitamins during cooking.
Vitamin C is easily absorbed both from food and in the form of supplements or food supplements, and can enhance iron absorption when eaten or taken together.
