What is Shatavari?
Shatavari (Asparagus Racemosus), is an herb belonging to the Paragaceae family, traditionally taken throughout a woman's life to support and promote reproductive and hormonal functions. The word Shatavari translates as \"she who has a hundred husbands.
It is a common plant throughout India, Nepal and the Himalayas. It prefers to root in gravel, rocky soils and at altitudes of 1,300 to 1,400 meters. It has acicular leaves, bright green. It blooms in July with tiny white flowers and in September bears blackish-purple fruits in the form of globular berries. It has a system of adventitious roots, with tuberous roots that measure about 1 meter in length and can have around a hundred roots per plant. In Ayurveda medicine, it is precisely this part of the plant that is used for its therapeutic properties.
